3 Myths About the Pursuit of Happiness

3 Myths about the Pursuit of Happiness | Soultiply with Brittany Ritcher | www.Soultiply.com What is your pursuit of happiness?

When I picture the word “pursuit” I think of some greasy, Steve Buschemi look-alike breathing heavily outside my door with a dozen roses.

CREEPY.

I don’t want to be pursued, and I don’t care to pursue anything either. So why in the world are we searching for the pursuit of happiness?!

But most damaging of all, the pursuit of happiness implies that happiness is something that must be overcome, something that must be conquered. So let’s debunk 3 myths surrounding the pursuit of happiness, and instead,  learn to access a wealth of happiness without inviting grief, labor or stress into our lives during the process.

Lost your Inspiration? It Might Be Where you Least Expect It…

Lost your Inspiration? It Might Be Where You Least Expect It | Soultiply with Brittany Ritcher | www.Soultiply.com **UPDATE**: Prefer video? This blog post was also recently featured on the #SoultiplyLive Periscope show. If you would prefer to watch the video, scroll to the bottom of this post for the content + questions. Or just continue reading!

When I was 13 years old, I wrote a book called, My Life in 15 Years . It was a 30-page clip-art riddled manifesto, detailing every element of my future 28 year old life. It included such predictions as:

  • My favorite clothing store (The Limited, duh . It’s the grown-up version of Limited Too!)
  • My husband (my first boyfriend at the time…which is now my gay ex-boyfriend )
  • My favorite color (it was red…now it’s blue)
  • My career as a world famous actress

I thought I had it ALL figured out. If 13 year old Brittany knew that one day my passions would shift away from acting and I would experience a myriad of other careers (from working at a talent agency, an event planning company, a restaurant development firm, a market research group – you name it!), I think she would have fainted right there on the spot.

Soultiply was just a blip on a distant imagination.

But there has been one key element that has remained steadfast throughout the many passions and career changes. Something that hits you when you least expect it – in the most divine way.

INSPIRATION.

Having a Tough Day? 3 Ways To Boost Your Mood Using Emotional Memory and Music

Having a Tough Day 3 Ways to Boost Your Mood Using Emotional Memory and Music Soultiply Brittany Ritcher My hands down favorite vacation would have be my trip to Disney World with my boyfriend back in 2013.

I knew I wanted a memento from that fantastic week, our first real vacation together.

I could have bought a t-shirt, but I knew that it would just end up where all old t-shirts go to die: the workout clothes pile.

A stuffed animal would end up high on a closet shelf, just waiting to creep me out every time I turned on the light.

A keyring would chip off, leaving Mickey Mouse with half an ear.

No, I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted a song.

Because I knew of one of the most powerful ways to capture a moment in time was through the memory of music .

I thought my last true summer break was the year that I worked at the American Girl Store (I think I’m STILL finding glitter on my body from that summer…) But this summer, I was in for a big surprise.

BEYOND THE MAGIC 8 BALL: How to Make Stress-Free Daily Choices

Beyond The Magic 8 Ball: How to Make Stress-Free Daily Choices | Soultiply with Brittany Ritcher | www.Soultiply.com Welcome to Part 2 of our “Beyond the Magic 8 Ball” Series, where we are exploring different tools to make life-changing choices.

In our last post, I showed you how to use the Three Prong Method for weighing the pros and cons of a big decision .

Today we are going to rein it in and focus on the small choices that we face on a daily basis.

To tell you the truth, for me, making daily choices are actually MUCH harder than the huge, life-changing ones. I know that sounds kinda crazy, but it’s true. If you’re emotional or prone to anxiety, daily decisions can feel debilitating. Sometimes the options feel so overwhelming, that it can be difficult to take a deep breath and step back from the situation.

That’s why a lot of people find having a routine or schedule to be helpful – it eliminates the need for us to make the same choices over and over again. In fact, I just listened to a great episode on Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income podcast where he talks about his miracle morning routine and how he fights decision fatigue.

But today, I want to share some of my own tips and tricks on how I make stress-free decisions in my daily life.

BEYOND THE MAGIC 8 BALL: How to Make Big, Life-Changing Choices

Beyond The Magic 8 Ball: How to Make Big, Life-Changing Choices | Soultiply with Brittany Ritcher | www.Soultiply.com It’s seriously like pulling teeth to get me to decide on a restaurant when I go out on the weekend. Just ask my poor boyfriend – I over-analyze, I change my mind, I weigh the pros and cons, I have to visualize myself tasting the food at each restaurant (Like, you think I’m kidding, but I’m not!)…

And all that stuff is great if, you know, picking a restaurant was a life or death decision. But what to wear in the morning? Or what to pack for lunch? NOT such a big deal.

Sometimes it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the opportunities and choices presented to us on a daily basis.

It feels like we are caught in a twister of swirling options and we somehow have to grasp for the right choice surrounded by this very confusing fog.

But what if we could learn to fully harness the power of our choices to grow in whichever direction we choose ?

Imagine how much more time you could save in the morning alone! Those are precious minutes you could be sleeping in, amiright?

I’ve learned that powerful, dream-creating people revel in their ability to take action and make soul-filled and deliberate choices.

So today I’m excited to teach you how to develop a plan to conquer choice overwhelm once and for all. No more enie-meenie-miney-moe. If you find yourself freezing up or freaking out over the choices you need to make, these next two posts will share with you my surefire methods for making choices that resonate with your soul.

Strength on Loan: How to Repay the Supportive People in your Life

Strength on Loan: How to Repay the Supportive People in Your Life | Soultiply with Brittany Ritcher | www.Soultiply.com After living in New York City for over 6 years, I’ve become pretty jaded. Not many things get me riled up about this bustling town…but for ONE exception .

Humans of New York

I’m sure it needs no introduction, but the Humans of New York blog kicks some serious booty. It reminds us of our fragile humanity, how everyone has a story, and how when it all comes down to it – we fundamentally want to help one another. It’s the happiest place on the internet. And what’s more than that – it’s a blog that has seriously changed lives.

Take, for instance, the current saga centered around a young man named Vidal. I won’t get into all the incredible details, ( you can find them here – and I urge you to do so!) but Vidal is a young man that Brandon (the founder of Humans of New York) met on a street in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Brandon asked him who the most influential person has been in his life, and he mentioned his school principal, Mrs. Lopez. To make a very long and incredible story short, Humans of New York was able to raise over a million dollars for Mrs. Lopez’s school, send Vidal on scholarship to college, and inspire a nation. In fact, Vidal & Mrs. Lopez recently had the opportunity to visit the White House and meet President Obama! And to think that all this powerful change was initiated by a principal that dedicated her life to creating scholars; that the catalyst for this greatness was an intelligent young man, honoring the individual who taught him that he mattered.

I dare you to look through these posts and not cry tears of joy.

It’s a very New York City mindset to think that you can do it alone.

We all float around this city in our own little bubbles, eyes glued to our cell phones, trash and slushy snow biting at our feet. It’s easy to feel like you are alone in this winter dystopia, especially when the subway is crowded, rent is due, and you have no clue what you want to do with your life .

But if you manage to look up for a second, to recognize the warm bodies around you, and to acknowledge the supportive people who stand by you no matter what – your whole life can change.

It did for Vidal. And it did for me too.
