What Is Aol Now?
AOL Desktop - Goodmail
AOL Desktop integrates a web browser, a media player and an instant messenger client. The version 10.X is an upgrade from the version 10. The version of macOS that is based on WebKit is the one for the macOS.
The previous AOL browsers and AOL Desktop versions were not the same as 10.X. Its features are focused on email and web browsing. One doesn't have to sign in to AOL to use it as a regular browser.
It can be used to access non-AOL email accounts. "MAIL", "IM", and several other buttons are the primary buttons. AOL stated in 2005 that it would be implementing a system called Goodmail, which would allow companies to send email to users with whom they have pre-existing business relationships, with a visual indication that the email is from a trusted source and without the risk of the email messages being blocked.
AOL Mail Down
AOL Mail is still a priority for many consumers in the US and when it is not working it can be a disaster if it is down for long.
AOL is not a dial-up company
The dial-up business of AOL is not being bought by the company. AOL is a major player in the online ad market, with its advertising platform generating around three-quarters of its sales, versus only a third back in 2000. AOL is worth billions even though it has a third of the employees and a quarter of the sales that it did in its heyday.

Aol Platforms: What It Really Was and Why
It's hard to blame someone for questioning a business that still makes most of its money from a dwindling pool of subscribers, but Thompson, like most tech watchers, likely saw Aol for what it was, not what it is gradually becoming. Aol Platforms brought in a whopping $271 million in revenue in the third quarter. The Platforms segment grew by 44% over the year. That kind of growth is rare in old-school tech companies, which have been around for more than a decade.
AOL's Dial-up Service
2.1 million people still use AOL's dial-up service. The revenue stream has stopped. A person familiar with the matter says that the number of dial-up users is in the low thousands.
AOL has a good base of customers who pay for technical support and identity theft services each month. The person who asked not to be named said that there are 1.5 million monthly customers of AOL Advantage who pay between $9.99 and $14.99 per month. If average revenue per user is $10 per month, that's about 180 million dollars of revenue.
