A news wire is made up of editors and journalists who cover a company. A wire organization does not have a product. There is no Associated Press newspaper.
The Associated Press is a member of almost every newspaper in the world. The AP and other wire services give stories, photographs and graphics to newspapers. The AP has reporters who can cover events that local reporters cannot.
The AP has employees who do just that, even if newspapers can't afford to send a reporter to cover a war or economic summit. The news wire is the official source for most newspapers. Until AP picks up the story, nothing is official.
The process works in reverse. A reporter for a local newspaper sends a story about an interesting event to the AP, which then picks up the story and sends it to the national wire. Local television stations work their news in the same way.
