It works like an auction market, with the best price on either side of the bid or ask going to the top. A stock with a low volatility is moving in the same direction as the market.
A stock with a greater than average volatility is moving more quickly than the average, and a stock with a less than average volatility is moving less quickly. Market Cap is short for market cap. Market cap is the total size of a company.
