Hunger can be left in the aftermath of wars, as crops and farmland can be destroyed. Cultural values about food may be involved in food security. Some cultures have lower ranking members of the household eat last and may not have access to the more important components of a meal.
Food insecurity is an issue because it can lead to riots, rising food prices in response to competition, and other causes of social and political instability. There are close ties between food production and environmental health. Many people believe that people and governments have an obligation to alleviate hunger because they are in a position to do so.

There are isolated events that can be seen as one-time anomalies that can become widespread and new categories of big, maybe yet unseen or agreed that could happen if something is not done.
