Real-Time Chatting with Gmail

According to the company, users can chat in real-time, either one-on-one or by creating a group conversation. Users can create a Room within chat if multiple groups are involved. Rooms is a great tool for a group of friends that are planning a night out, while chat is a great tool for a group of people working on a project together.

The web browser version of the Gmail app has both features, as well as the other versions. The app for chat is available to download from the App Store and the Play Store. To get started, the user needs to log into Gmail and make sure that the chat is enabled.

Click on View All settings, then click on the On option, and then click Save changes. On an iPad or iPod touch, open the Gmail app and tap Menu in the top left corner, then head to the settings. Users will need to choose the account they want to use for chat before checking the box for select the chat and rooms tab.

Spaces in Chat

You can't pick a name for your group. You can't assign tasks. Users are notified of every single message.

Group chat in the internet chat service, called "chat in chat", is convenient, but it might not be the best fit for a professional setting. For professionals, spaces might be the way to go. You can assign tasks, modify notifications, and make other changes that standard group chat does not provide.

The new service is called "Google Spaces" and is a re-branding of an older feature. The same thing is happening in the spaces in chat. The service was renamed for one reason or the other, probably to add a unique twist to the service the company is providing with.

The conversations you used to have under Rooms have been carried over to Spaces. The same is true for Rooms in Gmail and chat.google.com, which are at the bottom left corner of your screen. The most obvious differentiating factor is naming.

You don't have a say in the name of the conversation you are having in the group chat. The participants' names are taken and displayed at the top of the screen. If you share more than one group with the same number of participants, you might not be able to differentiate them.

Gmail - A Complete Collaboration Solution

You don't have to open new tabs to find what you need. You won't need to look for apps as you can concentrate on the task at hand. Gmail is being expanded to a complete collaboration solution.

You can see the new icons on the left side of your email view if you use the new chat interface. You can find chat, spaces, and meet in there too. Getting in touch with people is no longer a requirement.

You can conduct video conferences over Meet and send quick messages over chat. The chat tab makes sure that all conversations related to your Space are in one place. It has all the features of a chat.

You can schedule a meeting directly from the tool, share files easily, and set up a video conference. The Files tab will allow you to share files with your team. You can share files from your computer or from your drive.

A shortcut for creating and joining meetings is now included in the workspace. When you click on the link, you will see the meeting room. You can send invites by email or by copying them.

Meet Rooms

Messenger is busy with all the contacts and chats. That's how most chat and messaging apps look. Meet is more minimalist.

You can turn off audio or video when you create a room. The Share Link button allows friends who are on Facebook to be invited. You need account with the internet company to join a room in Meet.

You don't need a Facebook account to join Messenger Rooms. Anyone with a link can join the room if the creator has chosen the correct option. It's easy for others to join if they aren't tech- savvy.

Messenger app supports sending a variety of images and audio messages. Neither app supports sending any attachments. That's odd since Meet is for business users.

You can share your attachments via the calendar app in Meet. Present screen is a way to share your screen with the participants, which is nothing but a business option in Meet. The caption will help those who don't speak the common tongue or have trouble understanding the accent.

Meetings with Breakable Room

There are breakable rooms inside of the meet. It allows hosts to separate people on the call. All the separate rooms have their own audio and visual systems, so you won't be able to hear or see anyone else in a different room.

Everyone will rejoin the main call when the host is ready. If you're familiar with how it works, you know that it's a free platform. Those with a premium plan will be able to get a break room.

You can schedule your rooms using events. You already have options for Meet calls, but you need to add more to include a Breakout room. You can host up to 100 different rooms in a meeting.

The other online meeting competitor, Zoom, only has half the number of rooms as the other one. You will be able to log into each room one by one to check on progress. Students can be checked on by their teachers in the online education rooms.

When you host a room, you will turn off your microphone and camera. You can still hear what's happening inside the room. You can turn on your camera or mic at any time.

Breakout Rooms in Google Meet

The purpose of the Breakout Rooms is to divide the participants into sub-meetings when they need to collaborate and discuss things as a group. The rooms can be used to divide students into groups to complete assignments. You can assign students to their rooms in advance so that they don't have to deal with it during the meeting.

The students can easily know which room they belong to if they see a visual presentation the slides. The meeting is not named after it and skipping it will not change the outcome. It can be a good practice to mix the meeting URLs for different rooms.

Students can join their respective Breakout Rooms while still being in the original meeting. You can join all the meetings and keep them open in separate tabs in your browser. Group activities can be hosted in a remote environment with the creation of Breakout Rooms in the Google Meet.

Graded Assignments in the Class Stream

The platform integrates several of the popular tools for student and teacher communication. Students can join a class through a private code or automatically imported from a school domain. Teachers can mark assignments within the Google ecosystem.

Each class creates a folder in the respective user's drive for the student to submit their work to be graded by a teacher Each assignment can be categorized into a category or topic in the calendar. The assignments are stored and graded on the productivity applications of the internet giant.

The teacher and student do not share documents on the student's Drive, instead files are hosted on the student's Drive and submitted for grade. If teachers choose a file that can be treated as a template, every student can change their own copy and then return to school for a grade instead of having to view, copy, or edit the same document. Students can attach additional documents from their Drive.

Set assignments are on the 'To do' list. The class stream can be used to post announcements by teachers which can be commented on by students, but they won't be as high a priority as announcement by a teacher. Multiple types of media from the internet giant can be attached to announcements and posts to share content.

Zoom, Meet and Facebook

If you use the free version for a long time, you might be able to convince yourself to pay. The meetings can hold up to 100 people and last 40 minutes. When the time limit is up, you can just start a new meeting and send the link back to people, but that is not nice.

One-on-one meetings have no time limit in the free version. You can get rid of the time limit by paying a monthly fee. Regular people don't need to worry about the more expensive service tiers for medium and large businesses.

The best feature of Zoom is the ability to put silly background behind you, something you've almost certainly seen on social media recently. From a functional standpoint, zoom works very well. The user interface is easy to understand, and you can share your screen with the entire call if you want.

Jack Morse of Mashable warned before mass social distancing started that the data privacy record of Zoom was bad. The company has improved in the interim, but that hasn't stopped them from meeting data on the dark web. Meet is a version of the G Suite.

Video calls can accommodate up to 100 people, and it has things like screen sharing and live closed caption for anyone who needs them. The keyboard noise in the background is Filters out in case you don't like hearing clacking. The free version will have a time limit on calls, but it won't be enforced until after March 31.
