The Internet Standard for Email
Not every email service provider supports every emai protocol. Outlook.com and hosted Exchange accounts are the only ones that support POP3 and IMAP. The most common internet standard for email is POP.
When a POP email client retrieves messages, the messages are downloaded from a secure mail server in the cloud onto your computer.
