McDonald's said it would stop using chicken raised with antibiotics that are important to human health because of the growing concern about drug-resistantbacteria. It would allow the use of antibiotics that are not harmful to humans.
The change is important. People are dying from new breeds of superbugs that are resistant to drugs because meat companies have been using antibiotics for decades. 80% of all antibiotics sold in the US are bought by cattle ranchers and other agricultural users, according to Eater.
All antibiotics are being removed from the chickens that are used by the company. Pressure may be on the company to cut back on antibiotics in its chicken. The new dark roast coffee was introduced last year and is being sent to US restaurants to make frozen beverages.
