The NBA and NHL have adopted a bubble where all players and personnel are sequestered into a single area in order to keep them out of the public eye.

The NBA and NHL have instituted strict bubbles where players, coaches, media and staff are sequestered away from the general public. Major League Baseball is asking its players to be responsible when traveling to the country for games. It's not working well and the Miami Marlins have had a rough time with it.
The league decided against the bubble concept because they felt that the rosters of the NFL were too large. Adding scouts and front office personnel and perhaps media to the 80 man teams combined with coaches and medical staff? The league has 32 teams and 150 people per team.
It's a logistical nightmare to have almost 5,000 people hole up. The sod on some fields could become a problem, but installing FieldTurf would have to be considered a real option as the country deals with much bigger problems during a global Pandemic. The issue of scheduling football games at Nats Park and Camden Yards while baseball season is over could be solved with flexibility from the NFL.
Baseball will be over by late October. The holiday season should continue into the NFL season. Washington has a local knowledge base of handling large events.
The area between Northern Virginia, D.C. and Maryland could be the location of a divisional Pod. There are plenty of smaller colleges and elite high schools that can handle the practice space that the NFL needs. The league wants fans in the stands for games and workouts, but also wants teams to play in their home stadiums.

The NBA Season at Disney World
The NBA will begin its season at Disney World in less than two weeks. The league's "bubble" strategy was important to resume play during the COVID-19 epidemic, but Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban doesn't think the same thing can be done in the NFL.

The players were under strict sterilization in their hotel rooms for the first 48 hours. The players were tested for COVID-19 after the period was over and allowed to roam within approved areas of the Disney grounds. The players, coaches, and staff are tested daily. Hotel staff, NBA reporters, and others allowed to enter the bubble are subject to strict testing protocols and are not allowed to get close to the players.

In response to COVID-19, bubble is being used in the realm of sports, where athletes can reside and compete away from the general public.
The NBA Bubble
The bubble concept was viable because of the unique infrastructure presented by the Disney World Resort. It is large enough to hold all the NBA team and personnel, but also has security that makes it easy to isolated from the surrounding area. Disney World was not hosting guests during the COVID-19 epidemic so it was a logical deal for both sides.
If the team makes the playoffs, they can add people. If a team makes it past the first round, it can add two staff members and another pair if it makes the conference finals. The NBA and National Basketball Players Association later negotiated new terms that allow as many as four guests per player with exceptions for children in 17 hotel rooms.
Non- family guests who are not related to the player are not allowed in the bubble, and those with business relationships are not allowed. If they test negative for COVID-19 every day they are outside of the NBA bubble, they can leave the bubble and not be required to spend four days in a hospital. Each team has a chef who is open 24 hours a day.
Once players are able to have meals at some of the restaurants on the Disney campus, they will be able to order room service. The NBA has set up a "snitch line" so players can tell if someone breaks the rules of the NBA bubble and increase the risks for all involved. The discipline will range from a fine to a suspension.
The NBA season will start with eight games to determine seeding. The play-in tournament for the 8 seed in either conference will only be held if the 9 seed is less than four games behind. The No. 8 seed will be safe in the tournament.
COVID-19 and the NHL
The NHL will play games in two Canadian "hub cities" on August 1st. Teams will remain isolated for as long as they are required to be there. They played one exhibition game each before the start of the pre-Stanley Cup playoffs schedule, which consists of a qualification round and round-robin play.
Any member of a team's traveling party who develops symptoms of COVID-19 is required to inform a club representative immediately and then self-isolated. The club's physician will examine the person and then decide with the club's infectious disease specialist and the league's event medical director whether to conduct a test. Club personnel are required to inform medical personnel if they come into contact with someone they suspect has Covid-19.
The Stanley Cup playoffs will begin after the conclusion of the round-robin play. The playoffs will best of seven. The Stanley Cup Final is scheduled to start in September and end in October.
