Timer Based on Clocks
The broadest range of time intervals and the highest accuracy are what make timer based on clocks. The single-shot and multishot timers are designed to operate within a 24 hour period. Electric and electronic time measurement devices are used in repeat-cycle timers that function continuously over a period of several months.
Electronic timers
The simplest and oldest type of mechanical timer is the hourglass, which is a device in which a fixed amount of sand is drained through a narrow opening from one chamber to another to measure a time interval. Electronic timers are similar to a quartz clock with special electronics and can achieve higher precision. Digital electronics can be used, but may not have analogue display.

The Timer Register of the 8051
A timer is a clock that is used to measure time intervals. A timer that counts from zero upwards is called a stopwatch. An hourglass is a timer, a device that counts down from a specified time interval and uses it to generate a time delay.
The 8051 has two timers. They can be used as a timer or an event counter. Timer 0 and Timer 1 are both 16-bit wide.
The 8051 follows an 8-bit architecture, which means that each 16 bit is accessed as two separate registers. The different timer operation modes are set by the same register. The lower 4 bits are set aside for Timer 0 and the upper 4 bits are set for Timers.
The lower 2 bits are used to set the timer mode in advance and the upper 2 bits are used to specify the location. The most common mode is timer mode 1. It works the same way as 13-bit mode except that all 16 bits are used.
The increment is from 0 to a maximum of 255. When the value is reached, the value is reset to 0 and then the value is incremented by 1. The timer may contain up to 65536 distinct values and it will overflow back to 0 after 65,536 machine cycles.
IC CD 4060: An Excellent Timer
The original data is converted into parallel form by the Decoder at the receiver side. The Microcontroller pins are connected to the output of the Decoder and the Microcontroller is able to control the transistor's Conductive Resistance so as to control the switch of the relay and thus the load remains switched on for the time set at the transmitter side. The panel has 45 LEDs in single or two colors.
The transparent type of the LEDs should give enough brightness. The LEDs are arranged in rows with a 100 ohms limiting resistor. The diagram has two rows.

CD 4060 is a integrated circuit that has a built in oscillator and a Frequency divider. The external combination of the two scuplture can be used to set the internal oscillator's basic frequencies. The IC CD4060 works between 15 and 15 volts DC while the HEF 4060 works down to three.
IC CD4060 requires external components to feed the clock. The timing capacitor and timing resistor are connected. The clock in pin 11 requires a high value of resistor.

The process was made automatic by the methods that were invented. A digital counter is a logic circuit that counts the number of events in relation to a clock signal. Counters are logic circuits that use flip-flops as building blocks.
Optical Pulse Measurement

RF Frequency Counters as Timer
RF Frequency Counters and Timers use the same basic circuitry, with some simple internal reconfiguration, and sometimes RF Frequency Counters can act as timers. The timer capability is usually not included in the very high RF frequencies. The wave meter can be used to check the receiver's frequencies.
The transmitted signal will be picked up by the wave meter and heard as a Heterodyne within the wavemeter headphones. The wavemeter uses an accurate oscillator to ensure the signal is accurate. A Frequency Counter is an electronic test instrument that operates by counting the number of times a signal passes a give voltage point in a given time.
If the time for which the Frequency Counter is set to count is a second, there will be a hundred repeats of the same pattern. There is a balance between getting an accurate count and the length of time of the gate. Only ten crossing will be counted if the second gate time is less than a tenth of a second.
The longer gate time will be more accurate if the incoming signal is not as strong. RF Frequency Counters are used in electronics test. They are used for many RF measurements.
