Double NAT Problem

The process of reassigning the single address space into a further one is called Network Address Translation. Network devices like a routers can act as agents between the Internet and the private network when they are deployed with the help of the NAT. It shows that a unique address can be used to represent the entire class of network devices.

The gateway will look up the translated address in the NAT table to find out the global address. The data packet is delivered to the host at the address 172.168.20.10 after it is translated to the inside local address. The packet is thrown out if the match is not found in the table.

The figure shows that the NAT overload is using the port numbers on the inside global addresses to discriminate between the translations, as the port numbers 1666 and 2444 are used respectively to spot the data packet. The table above shows the destination address and the source address that are now known as the outside global address. A simple example is when a DSL modem and a wi-fi router are connected in a network with NAT enabled.

The host devices are connected to the public network. If the mode is known as bridged mode and the modem has port forwarding configured, the Double NAT issue can be solved. The final data packet information is saved along with the port number and the address in the current connection table.

The data packets that land at the router will be looked at in the table that the packet was sent to see if it's a good one for the network. If the equivalent port and address are found, it will take it to the destination PC. If the match is not found, the data packet will be thrown out and the traffic tagged as unwanted.
