Yokai: A Japanese Ghost
Yokai is often referred to as a Japanese spirit or an East Asian ghost, like the Hanako-san legend or the story of the "Slit-mouthed girl", both of which are from Japanese legend. YoKai can be derived as something strange or unusual.
The cosmological constant and the fate of youkai
Humans and youkai can live together despite the danger. Tewi Inaba is helpful to humans. It is a case by case decision if a youKai is harmful to humans.
The Underworld is a "Hated" World
There are many "hated" species of youkai in the Underworld. In exchange for the Underworld youkai agreeing to keep the evil spirits from the regions that were once part of Hell, Gensokyo forbids surface youkai from travelling to the Underworld. You can travel to Gensokyo from the Underworld.
The Japanese YoKai Culture
The interest in Japanese yoKai culture has grown in recent years. There are exhibitions all around Japan and across the world that show the work of artists. The Japanese dragons are similar to dragons of Western medieval lore.
Many benevolent creatures respond to the prayers of humans, but others are terrifying beings that cause terror. The feminine, houou is often used to symbolize Yin and yang, because it has male qualities. It is also capable of shape-changing, like the sea god Ryujin.
The daughter of Ryujin, the father of Japan's first emperor, is said to be descended from dragons. The Kirin is a horned creature that symbolizes purity, justice, and wisdom. It is about the size of an adult deer and has scales all over it.
The powers of the tatsu dragon and the houou are not as powerful as that of the tatsu dragon. The Kitsune, or Japanese fox, are similar to wild foxes in appearance. One of the groups of Kitsune are spiritual beings that act as messengers to the gods and wood-dwelling creatures that deceive or prank humans.
Messenger foxes are associated with the Shinto deity of rice cultivation who is also associated with prosperity. The Fushimi Inari-Taisha of Kyoto is a famous Inari shrine because of its vermilion torii gates and images of foxes. Wild Kitsune are known to possess humans as well.
The East Yuki- onna
The YouKai race of ice are called the Yuki- onna. They are not looking like beautiful women, but rather large white ape-like beasts with a freezing breath that can freeze an opponent in seconds. Also known as a snot.
The East Youkai Faction is a group of YouKais led by Nurarihyon. The Kanto region of Japan is where the members of the group reside. They had an agreement with the Five Principal Clans that they would not interfere with each other.
YoKai and the Last Remnant
YoKai are things that are not actually creatures. The Japanese usage of yoKai is much larger than the word Manga. It covers more than just monsters. The Ankou, who is the last man to die in Celtic lore, can be considered a reaper of souls because he is the last one to die before the new year.
Shinto and the Kami Energy
Shinto is ritual purity. The kami are not pure, they have been cleansed of their sins by ritual and worship, so they have restrictions on the space they can use. According to Komatsu, yoKai are the same kami energy as the ones who were never worshiped or purified. The energy became yoKai instead of kami.
Ginko and the Mushi Master
Ginko is a Mushi master who travels to keep them at bay. Mushi are living beings trying to survive in the world just like everyone else, and Ginko describes them as supernatural creatures. Ginko is fascinated by their existence and is more often researching them than not.

Yukari and the Crows in Lotus Asia
Chapter 26 of Curiosities of Lotus Asia contains analysis of Yukari's name. Rinnosuke implies at the end that there may be more meanings hidden in it. Zenki and Goki are crows that Yukari and Ran use.
One shikigami crows gets killed by Watatsuki no Toyohime, and three more are spy for Yukari later in Silent Sinner in Blue. Suika Ibuki had a friend named Yukari. They are not sure how or when they became friends.
Yukari looks out for Suika in Immaterial and Missing Power and Suika does favors for Yukari, such as helping to investigate the underground or rebuilding the Hakurei Shrine. The last time the two played a game was before the weather turned bad. Yukari and Suika are at the New Year's Festival.
Yukari and Kasen are youKai, so it is not known how long they have known each other. The youKai were the ones who proposed the Hakurei Barrier, so Yukari and Kasen probably knew each other. The dialogue in Immaterial and Missing Power suggests they already knew each other.
It is possible that they met at the vampire incident, and that Yukari was the one who signed the contract with Remilia. Yukari doesn't know who Eirin is. In Imperishable Night, neither of them make any special note of each other, but they are very friendly in the end.
